Stepping It Up

As the popularity for Normal Cooking’s food blog grew, the desire to make the site look professional and respectable was more paramount than it had ever been before. The food blogger (who happens to be my wife) wanted to make money off the site through affiliate programs and sponsorships. So we swiftly began to work together to set up her new custom domain. Mimicking the colors and vibrancy of the delicious meals she plans, we designed the website to be bright, clean, organized, and fun to be on. I went with a Metro theme on this one with the bold and clean sans serif font, solid colors in eye-pleasing geometric shapes, and and organized layout throughout her site that allows the user to navigate easily.

Custom Pages for Easy Navigation

The site boasts a spot for advertisements within posts and on the sidebar of every page. It also has a very appealing slider on the homepage that allows special recipes chosen by Normal Cooking to be featured. At the bottom of the site there is a Your Favorites footer that displays her most-clicked recipes from background analytics. Just to be fun, we change out the headers with the holidays for a seasonal touch! A “Recipe Index” page was created which showcases all her different categories of meals, paired with an appetizing image from that category as the linked graphic. Head over to Normal Cooking to see all that the site has to offer.

Custom Header Images

Lindsay had a really great and fun idea to change the header images with the seasons. I loved being able customize the headers with different and really fun themes such as New Years, Valentine’s Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! Heck, I even designed one for the kickoff of the Auburn University football season since she’s such an avid Auburn fan.

I definitely see many more to come in the future as we continue this fun trend that sets Normal Cooking apart from other food blog sites.
